At just 7 months old, Coop is exactly what you’d expect from a German Shepherd/Blue Heeler mixβsmart, curious, incredibly affectionate… and full of puppy energy. If we’re being honest, he sometimes seems like two high-energy dogs sharing one brain. π
He’s still learning his manners and will thrive with someone committed to continuing his training, providing plenty of exercise, and helping him become the amazing dog we already know he can be. As we’re getting to know Coop, we’re also learning more about his needs. Like many young working-breed dogs, he’s full of energy and thrives when he has structure, enrichment, and a job to do. One behavior we’re already beginning to work on is his habit of chasing his tail. We’re incorporating training into his daily routine and will also be discussing it with our veterinarian to make sure we’re giving him the best possible support.
Whoever welcomes Coop into their home should be prepared to continue that training and provide the physical exercise and mental stimulation that a smart, active puppy needs. We know that with patience, consistency, and the right guidance, Coop has all the potential to grow into an incredible companion.
Coop’s story is that his owner’s father originally got him as a puppy, and Coop stayed with the son while they waited for Dad to be able to take him home. Seven months later, life had other plans, and it became clear that wasn’t going to happen. His owner loved him dearly, but his home was already at full capacity and wasn’t prepared to raise a young puppy for the rest of his life. Surrendering Coop was an incredibly difficult decision, but it was made because he wanted the best possible future for him. While they had him, they did off leash training with him, and he does well with it.
